Eastwick WI

Between the monthly meetings, Eastwick members' diaries can be very busy. Apart from the regular activities listed below, there are outings and theatre visits. Look under "Calendar" for details.

Badminton. Members meet every Wednesday morning at Leatherhead Leisure Centre for a friendly and not too strenuous session.

Mah-jong. This intriguing game can be enjoyed at all levels and beginners are welcomed. Sessions take place two evenings per month in members' homes. Players have recently been donating £1 per meeting and have sent £50 to the "Do It For Denman" fund. Occasionally the Mah-jong players go out together for a Chinese or Thai meal. Contact Sally Dampney for details and click on 'Mahjong dates' for dates and venues.

Scrabble An informal get-together in members' homes every Monday evening. There is room for more Scrabble players - talk to Margaret Madge.

Craft Monthly gatherings with work in progress, usually accompanied by a luscious tea. During the spring months  they prepare and decorate Eastwick's stall for Bookham Village Day. They recently made 14 pennants for the athletes in the London 2012 Olympics, under a scheme organised by Quilts4London   See photo on the 'News' page. Contact Margaret Madge for details of Craft Group meetings.

Cinema Outings.
Sometimes we visit the cinema together.. Click on 'Cinema Outings' to see which films are coming up.

Book Club  A book is selected and read by members with a view to in depth discussion.

Walks  At intervals different members lead walks in the nearby    countryside. In recent months we have walked around Walton Heath, from Headley to Epsom Downs, through Norbury Park to Dorking and through Bushy Park.

Camera Club
The Eastwick Camera Club started as a result of the successful Eastwick calendar issued for 2008.  It meets on the second Wednesday of every month but the date is flexible.  We exchange ideas and tips, engage speakers and go on photographic forays. See our pictures from time to time on the 'News' page.
Contact Liz Williams for details of the Camera Club

Outings arranged for 2011 included Buckingham Palace, Abbotts Hospital in Guildford and Rye and Great Dixter. Pictures of these outings are shown on the 'News' page. Members also join outings arranged by the Emlyn Downs Group.

Denman College  Eastwick members are strong supporters of Denman College and several members attended the Surrey weekend at the college in 2011 (pictures on the "News" button).
Eastwick member Sheila Webber is the Surrey Federation Denman College Representative and as such she promotes the College within Surrey and organises the Surrey Weekend at Denman.

Eastwick WI has adopted a bedroom at Denman College. It is a small room at the top of the old house and it has been lovingly furnished by Eastwick members with a beautiful patchwork quilt and other hand made items. For pictures of our room click on the button on the left.
See the
Denman College website for details of courses available.

Cheshire Link  Eastwick is linked with Timbersbrook WI in Cheshire. We exchange cards and gifts at Christmas and keep in touch by email during the year. We have yet to meet!

Our tablecloth
This was made in 1975 and depicts landmark buildings local to the Eastwick area.
Each building was embroidered by a different member and then appliqued onto the cloth.
The embroidery is straight - it is the picture that is crooked!
