Eastwick WI has adopted a bedroom at Denman College. Most of the rooms at Denman are furnished by county federations but just a few were available for WIs. Eastwick was allocated a room on the top floor of the Georgian house, a small room that was probably for servants when it was a private house. For this reason, although there is a window the view is obscured by a parapet. The room was dark and uninspiring when we took it over. We had it redecorated and then set about replacing the furnishings.
The throw on the bed was designed by Gill Beckett and each block was made by a different member. Gill then put the blocks together and made up the finished piece.
Gill then made a cushion to match. Linda Stanton painted this picture of Kingston Market Ann Renn made this bear with feet that co-ordinate with the quilt and a body to match the curtains! Sally Dampney made a cross stitch picture of nearby Polesden Lacey and a cover for the visitors book. After a while we were so pleased with the comments in the visitors book we took a photo of them. Pat Christie and Carole Dry made the collapsible workbox which now has needles, thread and scissors ready for emergencies. We keep adding to the room. This cockerel was embroidered by Jenny Strong. We wonder whether he is the local rare breed, a Dorking. We bought two new chairs, a tray, a mirror, new curtains for the shower room, a luggage rack and kettle, cups and saucers for that early morning cuppa! After a long wait we eventually got our name on the door!
